Former minister and Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu, along with four others, has been barred from leaving the country. The Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan City, Md. Zakir Hossain, issued the order on Monday, as confirmed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain to *Prothom Alo*.
The individuals facing the travel ban include Amu’s daughter, Sumaiya Hossain; his Assistant Private Secretary, Fakhrul Majid Mahmud; and Mahmud’s wife, Rafeza Majid.
### Allegations and Investigations
According to ACC sources, the travel restriction request was submitted by Deputy Director Rezaul Karim to facilitate the investigation of corruption allegations against Amu. The allegations include embezzlement of government development funds, irregularities in tender and recruitment processes, bribery, and money laundering. The ACC is also investigating the acquisition of undeclared assets by Amu.
The ACC expressed concerns that Amu and the other banned individuals might attempt to flee abroad, prompting the court to approve the travel ban.
### Arrest and Legal Proceedings
On November 6, Amir Hossain Amu was arrested from a residence in West Dhanmondi, Dhaka. At the time of his arrest, police stated that Amu faces 15 charges, including murder. Amu, a prominent political figure, is also the coordinator of the 14-party alliance led by the Awami League.
The ACC’s ongoing investigation and the subsequent court order mark a significant development in the legal challenges surrounding former high-ranking Awami League officials.
